Electrical (EMG) activity of a spastic muscle before, during,
and after a chiropractic adjustment. Before the adjustment the
muscle showed a high degree of electrical activity and was found
to be stiff based on palpation. During the adjustment the electrical
activity increased (arrow). Following the adjustment, the electrical
activity became silent (except for occasional heartbeats) and
the muscle was found to be relaxed and soft based on palpation.

active role in their care.
• Patients work together with their doctor
to understand their health problems, gain a sense of confidence,
effectiveness, motivation, and control of their own health.
Chiropractic and exercise help restore and maintain
